Not a Real Adult
Jun. 3rd, 2009 05:51 pmI. Am. So. Tired.
Got through to the billpay website. It was down for the first two days of the month (when many mortgages are due - including ours) because they decided that was a great time to change the logo on the website. (And they needed two days to do this...?) They had the decency to not charge late fees, at least.
Yesterday someone said to me "I thought you were married, but I just learned that you're not, so you're not a real adult anymore."
There are so many things wrong with this statement, but it makes me sad. Most of the time I do not feel that there is a quick and easy way to summarize the sheaf of legal documents that formalizes our relationship. So I just don't explain it. We would have to go through a court with lawyers & mediation, etc to break up, does that count? Apparently not. Does it only count if you have a big expensive ceremony and wear a white dress? To this person, yes.
Ugh.
If I had more energy I would have argued that, but it wasn't the time or the place, so I just let it go, but now I wish I had said something.
Alice got her AKC Puppy Star last night, which would be more exciting if I understood what that all meant. I am tempted to get the little puppy medal for her, even though it is ridiculous and clearly designed as a moneymaking ploy for the AKC. I was surprised that so few puppies in Alice's class passed - it was easy peasy for her.
Now we have no money for the next two weeks. Good thing all I want to do is take a nap, which is free.
